Welcome to N1IV.NET |
|
Hi, my name is Jim Duarte and I've been licensed since 1980. My
Uncle Frank, WA1KEU (SK) got me interested in the hobby and
his good friend John Sikorski, W1RZH, got me started with a Novice
license.
Amateur Radio is a great hobby with many challenging
opportunities available. The ability to
engage in conversations with radio operators throughout the world is very
interesting. I've spoken with people in countries that show up on the map as a little
speck... rare islands, remote countries! It's a lot of fun!
Having a Graphic Design background, I |
 |
|
acquired an interest in SSTV
(Slow Scan Television) several years ago. Using my PC's soundcard and a West Mountain Radio
RigBlaster Pro, you can often find me on 20 meters sending pictures! Hope to
"SEE" you there. |

My
Station
consists of an Icom IC-756ProIII for HF and 6 Meters, an Icom
IC-910 for
UHF/VHF and satellite work and a Kenwood TH-D7A dual band HT
operating as an APRS
base station. In the mobile, I used to run a Kenwood TS-480HX for
HF and a Kenwood TM-D700A for FM duties. Like many
others today, with the HT and UIView32, I am running APRS at home. |
| When I
bought my new F250 Super Duty, I chose not to mount the radio equipment. I enjoy
DX and finally managed to get my DXCC Certificate... I'm
currently at 204 countries. I am
trying to get my CW proficiency back up and start using that mode
again... I used to really enjoy it. I have a new Begali Magnetic
Professional paddle and I'm working diligently at increasing my code
speed. I am a North America FISTS Member (#12142) as well as FISTS New
England. I just finished building a K1EL
K40 Keyboard Interface with the RTTY module... it's hooked up to the
Pro3. It has built in RTTY capability and I hope to take
advantage of that mode also. |
| I help
out when I can with RACES for the
Town of Plainville, MA and I am a
trained Skywarn Spotter for the National Weather
Service. I
occasionally enjoy working the A.M.S.A.T. satellites and I made two contacts
with Commander Frank Culbertson on the International Space
Station during JOTA weekend, October 21, 2001. Please feel free to
browse and enjoy the site... hope to catch you on the air sometime! |
